YOU KNOW HOW MOST BASE LAYER LOOKS LIKE, WELL, BASE LAYER?
At Mons Royale we’ve always been of the opinion that needn’t be the case. That there was no need to compromise style for the sake of performance. After all if that was the case, sports cars wouldn’t look the way they do. Form doesn’t always follow function the way you think it might. The solutions to design problems aren’t always elegant, although we believe they should be.
The brief for our AW17 collection was to create a fully functional merino layering system, from head to toe, for all types of mountain rider, with one key caveat: No compromises on style. Anywhere. Ever.
THE RESULT? We think it’s our most comprehensive collection to-date. A design-led approach to the task at hand has delivered innovations in fabric and technique that amplify the inherent performance attributes of merino wool and an aesthetic that’s exemplified in base layer that’s beautiful, rather than basic.
SO WHAT’S NEW?
HEAD TO TOE – WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED
Our underwear now uses the super light 140gsm corespun Merino Air-Con fabric. Soft against the skin and highly breathable it’s the perfect underwear for high intensity activity.
Base layer garments utilise our classic 190gsm 100% merino jersey. Layered over underwear this delivers low profile warmth. It’s highly breathable and with merino’s unique climate control and anti-odour capabilities. AW17’s base layer capsule features two distinct silhouettes – a slimmer fitting technical line, alongside the classic Mons Royale fit.
MID & OUTER LAYER INNOVATIONS
Four new mid and outer layer capsules all utilise wool in innovative ways.
Our new technical mid layer capsule is specifically designed for winter activity. Whether you’re backcountry touring or pre-season training, Arrowsmith performs. Using a flat-faced merino blend with a smooth outer surface that offers greater wind resistance combined with longer merino terry loops on the inner face for insulation, it’s slim, lightweight, warm and elastic. Arrowsmith works alone at lower altitudes or whilst training or combines perfectly with your technical shell for high mountain endeavours.
Designed for the rider that doesn’t see eye to eye with outerwear and would rather wear a hoody as they lap the mountain, Transitions brings merino performance with an urban edge. A brushed merino fleece inner face combined with durable nylon, loose cut and longer length provides style without compromising performance.
Light weight insulation combining a wool loft for warmth with a DWR treated outer for weather resistance and a merino twill lining for luxurious comfort.
Three layers of wool create a thoroughly modern take on the classic parka. A DWR treated woollen twill outer provides weather resistance whilst wool batts offer mid-winter insulation and a woven merino lining is soft and comfortable. It’s a natural take on cold weather insulation.
